Overview

Multiscale Systems, Inc. is an advanced materials engineering and manufacturing organization based in Worcester, Massachusetts. It supports demanding hardware programs with hybrid metal additive manufacturing, precision machining, polymer and composite development, tooling, inspection, testing, and design-for-manufacturing services for energy, aerospace, defense, marine, industrial, robotic, and nuclear applications.

Services

Engineering & Manufacturing Services

Structured engineering and manufacturing engagements for complex hardware programs that carry technical risk, evolving requirements, and difficult development-to-production transitions.

Hybrid Metal Manufacturing

Engineering and manufacturing of inspection-ready components by combining wire-laser directed energy deposition with integrated CNC machining for demanding parts and low-volume production runs.

Polymer & Composite Development

Materials, tooling, forming, inspection, and validation support for polymer and composite structural systems where weight, durability, and manufacturability must be addressed together.

Projects

Liquid Hydrogen Valve Optimization

Power Generation

Reverse engineered from an off-the-shelf brass valve, this 316 H stainless steel valve was optimized for cryogenic temperatures involved in liquid hydrogen transportation. It features multi-alloy print capabilities to selectively reinforce the valve seat with a superalloy without requiring a complete redesign.

Gen IV Reactor Superalloy Bearings

Nuclear

Custom designed and manufactured bearings for sodium fast nuclear reactors using wire-laser directed energy deposition (DED) hybrid manufacturing. These components use high-performance alloys (including Nickel 718, AWS 5.21 ERCoCr-A, and H11 tool steel) to perform in corrosive environments with temperatures approaching 1000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Hardened Sprue Bushings

Industrial

Produced multi-material sprue bushings with an Inconel 718 core and a mild steel outer body for use in polymer and composite mold tooling. This design provides high temperature and wear resistance at the core while maintaining machinability and cost control on the outer body.
