Overview

MEA Forensic Engineers & Scientists provides forensic engineering analysis and expert witness services to legal and insurance professionals across the United States and Canada. Practice areas include collision reconstruction, injury biomechanics, human factors, failure analysis, aviation investigations, and video analysis, supported by in-house research and laboratory testing capabilities.

Services

Aviation Investigations

Multidisciplinary team of mechanical engineers, materials scientists, metallurgists, and experienced commercial pilots investigates the causes of airplane and helicopter incidents, covering operational and procedural factors as well as design, manufacturing, and maintenance defects.

Collision Reconstruction

Engineering analysis of vehicle accidents using 3D scanning, crash data recorders, computer simulations, and full-scale crash testing to reconstruct events and provide defensible expert witness testimony.

Failure Analysis

Licensed metallurgical and mechanical engineers investigate failures in transportation, building systems, industrial machinery, and consumer products, delivering expert witness testimony for legal and insurance matters.

Human Factors

Analyzes human perception, decision-making, and behavior in accident contexts for litigation support.

Injury Biomechanics

Specialized knowledge of injury mechanisms, anatomy, and human performance combined with engineering mechanics to determine how injuries are caused and prevented in motor vehicle collisions, falls, and sporting activities.

Video Analysis

Scientific extraction and analysis of precise spatial and temporal information from video footage to reconstruct vehicle positions, speeds, and crash sequences.

Projects

Using computer simulations to assess seatbelt effectiveness during a rollover

Transportation

A pickup truck struck by a train rolled over with one occupant unrestrained. Computer simulation evaluated thousands of possible scenarios to assess whether a seatbelt would have altered the outcome.

Soda Can Explosion

A bakery customer claimed a can of soda exploded while being held, causing hand injuries. MEA Forensic investigated why the can ruptured.

Lithium-Ion Battery Explosion

Investigation of a failed lithium-ion battery to identify the causes of the failure and provide insight into contributing factors.

Analyzing Video of a Train-Pedestrian Collision

Transportation

MEA Forensic reconstructed a collision between a pedestrian and a light-rail train from multiple video views and analyzed contributing human factors.

Shedding light on a nighttime pedestrian impact

Transportation

A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck on a dark highway around midnight. MEA Forensic analyzed sight distances and stopping capability to assess driver response.

Water escape from a broken fire protection system

A fire sprinkler spontaneously broke off the end of a pipe, causing extensive flood damage to an apartment building. MEA Forensic determined how the failure occurred.

Assessing whiplash injury potential

Transportation

MEA Forensic investigated a rear-end collision involving a Toyota Corolla to assess whether a specific neck injury could have been caused by the crash severity.
