Joe Maffei
Principal
SE, PhD, LEED AP
Joe is a recognized expert in seismic evaluation, design, and retrofitting of structures. He has directed the seismic peer review of more than 50 high-rise buildings, and he has led the seismic evaluation and retrofitting of steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structures. For nearly three decades Joe has contributed to the development of building codes, serving on numerous committees that write standards and guidelines. He led the development of state-of-the-art recommendations for high-rise design, published by the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC). Joe served as a Director of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) and the SEAONC. He is elected as a Fellow of the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC). His awards include a Fulbright scholarship to New Zealand and a post-doctoral scholarship to Japan.
