National Weather Service Hydrogen Conversions

National Weather Service | Federal

FP2 successfully completed helium-to-hydrogen conversions for the National Weather Service across multiple locations. The scope involved performing code analyses at Upper Air Inflation Buildings to justify hydrogen use, and designing, assembling, programming, and installing the Hydrogen Inflation Safety System (HISS) to integrate automated safety controls and relocate gas supplies to building exteriors.

Marty is a registered professional Fire Protection Engineer (CA-1989) with experience in both the nuclear (commercial nuclear power reactors and DOE nuclear facilities) and the commercial sectors of fire protection and code enforcement with an emphasis in hazardous materials requirements. Marty has performed Fire Hazards Analyses for numerous complex facilities. Marty served as the Fire Marshal at Sandia National Laboratory's California site for 15 years with oversight responsibility for all fire protection systems and code compliance site-wide. Marty serves on several NFPA Technical Committees charged with development of new code (NFPA 2 Hydrogen - Chair; NFPA 55 Industrial and Medical Gases - Principal; NFPA 400 Hazardous Materials - Principal). Marty has a master's degree in Environmental Engineering (1995) and a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (1985).

Scott has a M.S. degree in Fire Protection Engineering (1996) and a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering (1993) from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
