Services

HVAC System Design

Engineering of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems that create comfortable, efficient, and code-compliant indoor environments. Services range from small rooftop unit replacements to large-scale central plant designs, focusing on robust, reliable solutions built for long-term maintainability.

Plumbing Design

Design of building plumbing systems to ensure reliable access to clean water and efficient removal of wastewater in compliance with local building codes. Solutions focus on selecting appropriate piping materials, optimizing layout efficiency, and integrating key components like pumps, valves, and fixtures.

Feasibility Studies and Life Cycle Cost Analysis

Assessment of the financial and operational impacts of proposed engineering projects to ensure investments are justified. Evaluations analyze real-world factors including implementation timelines, potential operational disruptions, and broader building impacts rather than relying solely on theoretical models.

Energy Efficiency Consulting

Implementation of sustainable strategies to reduce energy consumption and operational costs for buildings and central utilities. Services leverage credentials in energy management to optimize performance across systems, integrating decarbonization and sustainable design practices.

Retrofits and System Upgrades

Evaluation of existing mechanical infrastructure to identify performance improvements, energy savings, and modernization opportunities. Upgrades are engineered to integrate smoothly with existing conditions and maintain continuity of operations.

Professional Peer Review

Independent technical review of engineering documents, plans, specifications, and reports to verify project alignment with objectives and codes. Evaluations draw on decades of experience to assess constructability, maintainability, and proper system integration.

Construction Support

Technical administration during the construction phase to facilitate successful delivery according to owner requirements. Services focus on rapid turnaround of submittals, product data, shop drawings, and responses to requests for information to minimize delays.

Projects

UCSB Santa Catalina Residence Halls Fire Pump and Emergency Power

Isla Vista, CA | University of California, Santa Barbara | Education

Modernization of life safety and mechanical infrastructure serving two ten-story student housing towers in Isla Vista, California. The scope includes replacing and electrifying the existing diesel fire pump system and installing a larger Tier 4 emergency generator to support both the fire pump and the building's required life-safety electrical loads. Mechanical improvements include replacing rooftop exhaust fans, replacing rooftop make-up air units, and rebalancing ventilation systems.

Trigeneration Plant Heat Recovery and Absorption Chiller

Fullerton, CA | California State University, Fullerton | Education

Modification of the central plant to improve overall energy efficiency and utilize waste heat from a campus gas turbine generator. The project involves installing a heat recovery heat exchanger on the turbine exhaust to generate heating hot water and drive a single-effect absorption chiller, as well as installing pumps, modifying the condenser water system, and developing new plant control strategies.

UCSB Library Chiller and Cooling Tower Replacement

Santa Barbara, CA | University of California, Santa Barbara | Education

Replacement of an aging 1000-ton centrifugal chiller with a flexible configuration consisting of two 600-ton centrifugal chillers, a two-cell cooling tower, and new condenser water pumps. The project required developing new control sequences to integrate the library plant with the campus central chilled water system, as well as overcoming tight space constraints in a basement mechanical room.

UCSB Engineering II Building AHU Rehabilitation Program

Santa Barbara, CA | University of California, Santa Barbara | Education

An alternative deferred maintenance approach overhauling and modernizing seven large heating and ventilation air handling units rather than replacing them. This rehabilitation program refurbishes internal assemblies and retains existing unit casings, reducing construction costs to one-third of a full replacement and minimizing building downtime.
